Town of Oxford NOTICE NOMINATIONS OPEN Municipal Special Election
TAKE NOTICE that the undersigned will accept nominations for the following office in the Town of Oxford for which a special election will be held on the 1st day of April 2023:
One Councillor elected at large
AND TAKE NOTICE that a nomination shall be filed at the office of the Returning Officer, by appointment only between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm on nomination day, Tuesday, March 7, 2023, or during office hours, between 9 am and 4 pm in the seven (7) business days preceding nomination day, which are February 24, 27, 28, March 1, 2, 3, and 6th, 2023.

Revisions To The List Of Electors (Voter’s List)
A preliminary list of electors (voter’s list) has been prepared for the upcoming election. The Revising Officer may make additions or corrections to the list upon application.
To find out if you are on the list:
Contact the Returning Office to set up an appointment to meet in person, by phone or by e-mail.
You will be asked for your name, proof of address, and date of birth

Nomination Packages
Interested in running to be a Municipal Mayor or Councillor in October's election? If you are not sure of what a Councillor does or if you should run or not. Click here for more detailed information. To view and print your own Candidate’s Package to get a head start, click here. Remember to book an appointment to come in and go over the package, and submit your deposit prior to Nomination Day. Appointments can be booked between the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM on February 24, 27, 28, March 1, 2, 3, and 6th, 2023 or on Nomination Day between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM on March 7, 2023.

Eligible Candidates and Voters
Who is qualified to be a candidate in a Municipal Election?
- You are a Canadian citizen of the full age of 18 years at the time of nomination.
- You are an ordinary resident in the municipality or in an area annexed to the municipality for a period of 6 months preceding nomination day and continue to so reside.
- Your Municipal Tax and Water account is paid in full
Who can vote in Municipal Elections?
You qualify to vote if you meet all of the following conditions:
- You are 18 years of age or older and a Canadian Citizen on the first advance polling day;
- You have been ordinarily resident in Nova Scotia for 6 months immediately before the first advance polling day;
- You are ordinarily resident in the Town of Oxford and have been so since immediately before the first polling day; and
- You are not otherwise disqualified to vote in the municipal elections.
Disqualified persons
- The Municipal Returning Officer
- A person serving a sentence in a penal or reform institution
- A person who has been convicted of bribery under this Act in the six years preceding ordinary polling day
How to Vote - phone or internet
Alternative voting will be entirely used for the Special Municipal Election.
Voting instructions will be included in the Voter Instruction letter mailed to each eligible elector on the official Elector List. Included in this information are instructions on how to access the voting system.
Voters can cast their ballot using the telephone or cell phone by calling a toll-free number that is listed on their Voter Instruction Letter.
ALSO, Voters using personal computers may use the Internet to visit a website that will allow them entry into the voting system where they can cast their vote.
