COVID-19 News Release
New Restrictions to Reduce Spread of COVID-19
“COVID is a social virus – it likes social contact because that’s how it spreads. COVID-19 flourishes in close-contact settings,” said Dr. Robert Strang, Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer of health. “That’s why we have to reduce our social circles and our gathering sizes outside of schools and the workplace. I know this will not be easy, but it’s an initial step to contain the community spread and avoid the potential to overwhelm our health-care system. It’s also why we will be testing bar staff in peninsular Halifax because they are now on the social frontlines of the pandemic and we need to keep them safe.”

Exciting News! Wild Blueberry Capital Beautification Program: Beautification and Streetscaping Grants for Main/Water Street Businesses in Oxford
The Town of Oxford has secured a grant of $17,500 through the province’s Beautification and Streetscaping Program that will allow Water and Main Street-facing businesses and/or commercial property owners to apply for limited matching funds to improve business facades and other curb appeal areas of their property. You may want to improve accessibility, replace awnings and signage, paint facades, etc. Approved projects will be eligible to receive up to 50% of their improvement costs to a maximum of $4000.00 per grant. All projects will be considered on a first come, first served basis. Please note: Only improvements approved through a successful grant application will be eligible for funding.
The Beautification and Streetscaping Program falls under the NS Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing (DMAH). The purpose is to improve business area streetscapes to attract tourists and support our economy. The DMAH requires municipalities receiving these grants to partner with a body corporate to administer funds to businesses. The Amherst Chamber of Commerce has agreed to partner with the Town of Oxford to administer and manage the project. Please direct inquiries there ( pdf see package for contact information) (434 KB) .

Residents and businesses should be aware that we have received a report of two youths canvassing door to door for donations for the Oxford Skate Park as a fundraising initiative.
The Town has no fundraising efforts happening at the moment.
Anyone approached for the solicitation of funds should not provide money to the individuals, and we are asking that you contact the RCMP with details and descriptions of the youth involved.
Please be aware that the Public Works Department had planned to complete the asphalt patching that is needed on our roads this week.
Without notice to area customers, the local asphalt plant has been moved out of our area and isn’t expected to be returned for up to two weeks.
Gravel will be placed back in the patching areas to make the travelling surface of the roads safer for vehicles until we are able to obtain the asphalt later in September.
Motorists are encouraged to travel with caution over the patching areas until we are able to complete the repairs.
